Were-Geeks Save the World: Book One
When badass werewolves battling supernatural evil realize they need tech support, they recruit a group of geeks with hilarious—and romantic—results.
Chemist Josh Collier is having a blast at a comic book convention when he gets the shock of his life—he’s a werewolf! WTF? Before he can howl, he’s whisked away to a secret lair by Nero, a hot guy dressed as a Roman centurion. Josh’s former life is over, and his genius is needed at Wulf, Inc.
Nero has no interest in babysitting a trainee were-geek when he’d rather be killing the demon that wiped out his entire pack. While Josh analyzes the monster’s weapon, wild passion ignites between him and Nero.
With destiny and their pack in the balance, can they survive the demon out to destroy Wisconsin?
One of my great joys is finding a unique twist on shifters, and this book by Kathy Lyons has that in spades.
Now, before I get into my review, I want to point out that the title might seem whimsical, but if you read the blurb, you’ll see it’s anything but. Nero is an Alpha wolf who loses everything in a cataclysmic explosion caused by a demon. His pack, the people he’s worked with, lived with, and been part of for years, is gone. It tears him apart on the inside, and what people see on the outside isn’t hidden either. Oh, and Nero has done something that if the powers that be knew about, would have them up in arms, and rightfully so.
The company he works for, Wulf Inc, has different types of magic, but what they don’t have is science. That’s where Josh Collier, uber-nerd, comes in. See, Josh has something in his DNA that makes him a person of interest to Wulf, but not to Nero, who has no desire for a new pack. Still, not given a choice, Nero goes to see Josh, and in the process turns Josh’s life upside down and inside out.
Now Nero is responsible for Josh, and Wulf is also taking care of other recruits as well, which has them all in varying states of emotions. Some are happy, others, like Josh, are insanely angry, and take it out on others, including Nero, in an explosive way.
After Nero works with Josh, he tells Josh what it is they—especially Nero—needs from him. What happens, though, when what Nero needs becomes different than what Nero wants?
This book has so many twists and turns, that you will be on the edge of your seat as the lives of these characters unfolds. Josh, the nerd, becomes something more. Nero, the loner, has to make a choice that guts him, and everyone else, especially Josh, has to come to terms with life after Nero’s decision is made known.
If you are a fan of shifters, or even if you’ve never read a shifter book before, I strongly encourage you to check out ‘Were-Geeks Save Wisconsin’ by Kathy Lyons. You’ll be on the edge of your seat as we race toward an end where you’ll discover that not all happy endings are alike.
